When to Revise Your Will

An estate plan must be updated to reflect changes in tax law, family structure, and asset values. Review your documents upon any of the following events:

• Marriage, divorce, or remarriage.
• The birth, adoption, or death of a child or grandchild.
• A relocation to another state (probate laws and state-level taxes vary significantly).
• A substantial change in asset values or business ownership.
• Changes in federal or state estate tax laws (such as the permanent adjustments under the OBBBA in 2026).
• Every three to five years as a routine check.
